Alternanthera is a sun loving annual that is great in landscape use. They will actually tolerate sun or shade but are most colorful in full sun. Alternanthera has a mounding shrubby habit and grows to a height of 10in-14in. Color is best in spring and fall due to shorter day length. Red and yellow varieties work well together due to same height. We also offer Alternanthera in URC (unrooted cuttings).
To achieve best results with Alternanthera, use well drained soil and plant in full sun. The amount of sunlight on the Alternanthera affects the color of the leaves. Plant 1 plug per 4in pot. Alternanthera does best with low feed until it is established.Once it has a well established root system, feed moderately. Alternanthera shouldn't be left outside below 60 degree temperature.
Cuttings vary in size between different plant families. These rooted starter plants will arrive ready to be transplanted in to your final container. If they are to be used in a landscape application, you will need to establish them in a 4 inch pot or an 1801 before planting outside.
